There is nothing I love more than a lakeside break from the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto. Don't get me wrong, I would certainly call myself a city girl, but being in the quiet of nature has always had a way of grounding me. I could not have been more excited to to spend a night in Muskoka with Ford Canada and my dear friend Rebeca Ulch.
Similar to the way nature grounds me, driving has always been therapy for me. We were given one of Ford's amazing SUVS to hit the road in - the Ford Edge. It was such a smooth and easy drive - even with the SERIOUS rain storm we drove through on the ride up. As the driver I felt nothing but safe and secure on the road!
Us girls had a blast listening to all our favourite jams and singing along the entire way. The sound system was like music to my ears (pun intended) and it was simple to connect our devices. FYI: this SUV has ample move for your passenger (Rebeca) to show off her best moves, and that she did – seatbelt intact!
En route to our final destination, the beautiful Sherwood Inn, we were invited to stop in at the Candy Shoppe to let our sweet tooth run wild! It was easy to get carried away in there with wall to ceiling treats. My favs? The hilarious novelty candy, oversized lollipops and ANYTHING chocolate mint.
We were warmly greeted by the Ford Canada team upon arrival and moved right into our first activity – an outdoor photography lesson with Michelle Valberg. This session was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. I was floored by Michelle’s talent and the level of work she as accomplished in her career. It was an honour to learn from such a talented portrait and wildlife photographer.
We then set out to put our new found skills to the test – the use of reflections in nature, the power of the crop and the beauty of patiently waiting for the perfect moment to capture. We photographed some of the ford SUV models around the grounds and adventured out in another Ford SUV - the Ford Escape to photography the beauty of Muskoka.
We then found ourselves at Johnston’s Cranberry Farm where we sampled some of the most delicious cheeses I have ever had. If you didn’t already know, cheese is one of my most favourite foods and I was legit in heaven. We left with some amazing goodies – cheese, jams and other confections. Johnston's has the most amazing patio overlooking the cranberry farm and I can’t wait to come back during harvest time for some cranberry wine and cheese!
After exploring, we headed back to the Sherwood Inn to taste some of the cranberry wines from Johnston’s Cranberry farm and sat down to the most amazing gourmet dinner. Amazing food, amazing company. Highlight: the indoor s'mores buffet!
After a sound sleep in our beautiful suite, we got up, rested as ever and had a beautiful sun filled, fun filled drive back to the city! But not before a quick stop at Don's Bakery to stock up on donuts and custard cups for the drive - the perfect end to the perfect trip!
Thank you so much to Ford Canada for allowing me to be part of such an incredible event, and Rebeca for being the best road trip partner! I loved testing out a couple of Ford’s amazing SUVS and I can totally see why the SUV class is the fastest growing in the world!
